Malaysia's medicine supply remains stable until June, despite rising costs, according to Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad. This stability is attributed to combined government and industry stockpiles, ensuring essential medicines like insulin and vaccines are available. However, the minister acknowledges a 30-40% increase in medicine costs and a 50-100% hike in some medical device prices due to various factors. Supply chain disruptions, including delays in medical device shipments, have further exacerbated the situation. The Ministry of Health (MOH) is actively addressing these challenges by collaborating with the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Economy, and Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living. They are exploring solutions such as a cost pass-through mechanism and appropriate rates to manage the issue without affecting healthcare services. Minister Dzulkefly reassures the public that the government is in control and will take stricter measures to prevent supply disruptions.
